Emil Leverato
20 • April 23 • Female • Human • SpellWeaver Magic • Student
Brown Hair• Brown Eyes • 5 Feet 3 Inches • 115 pounds
Appearance,
Small and mousy, Emil is often mistaken for a boy for her name and size. With no chest to speak of and a soft voice, Emil doesn't bother getting aggravated anymore when people get her confused. She often has a bored expression and seems uninterested in any lesson, conversation, or activity. However, she gives a small smile when addressed and can often be caught grinning to herself when reading a book. She seldom frowns and instead, when she's annoyed or upset, puts her lips in a thin line. When she is surprised or genuinely excited, she doesn't show her teeth when she smiles.
She keeps her bushy hair short in order to better maintain it and has never applied make up herself. Everything about her is small and thin, making her look younger than her 20 years of age. Her eyes are the only thing that look large on her small face and she gives off the impression of a confused or dazed creature; generally her eyes are downcast so as not to draw the attention of anyone. She wears T-shirts with jackets and jeans when she isn't in her light blue school uniform. Dresses are for exceedingly formal occasions such as weddings or important dinners for her. However, she seldom goes out.

Spells and Abilities,
Mystic Shield - Similar to the sigil spell Barrier Glyph, this is a spell which is used to erect a shield, to protect from damage. Like Barrier Glyph, this shield can only block damage from one direction at a time, depending on the direction in which it is cast. This shield is much more potent than Barrier Glyph, but simultaneously more dangerous. It draws its strength from the life energy of the caster. Initially, casting the mystic shield does not drain the user at all. However, each time it absorbs or blocks damage, the shield draws life energy from its caster to maintain itself. As a result "how much" the shield can take depends heavily on the condition of the caster. To illustrate, a younger, fit person would have a much stronger, long lasting shield than one who was old or sick. If the shield takes more damage than the person's life force can sustain, they risk knocking themselves unconscious or worse. The incantation for this spell is as follows: "Exite, tuitio lucis." (Come forth, shield of light.)
Illusory Veil - This, similar to the Bloody Mask spell, is one that is primarily used for disguise. By casting this spell, the user can cast what might be considered a miniature of the Glamour, changing their appearance in the eyes of others. Like Bloody Mask, this spell requires time and concentration, as well as a near perfect idea of what the user intends to look like when they have finished. Unlike Blood Mask, in order to keep up the spell, the user must maintain a level of concentration. In addition, as their appearance has not truly changed, close inspection can uncover the ruse. The longer this spell is in constant effect, the more energy it drains from the caster, although the energy cost for this spell is quite low compared to some others. Important to note is that this spell *can* be used to disguise the entire body, and not just the face. This however requires more energy and more time to cast. Interestingly, this spell is cancelled by the Revealing Glyph, revealing the caster's true appearance. The incantation for this spell is as follows: "Larvus est stello, faciem meam." (Mask of the trickster, hide my face.)
Elemental Weapon - This is a spell which allows the caster to bend any of the four major elements (earth, water, wind or fire) which are present in the environment around them into a physical form, specifically a weapon. The caster can form the element in question into whatever weapon they wish, so long as they have seen it before or can within reasonable detail envision it in their mind. The weapon created will be able to crush or cut as it would normally be able to, in addition to having the qualities of the element that it is made out of. As an example, a sword formed of fire could burn things as well as cut them. The longer the weapon is maintained, the more energy it saps from the caster of the spell. In addition, when the weapon is blocked or clashes with another weapon, this drains some additional energy from the caster. The weapon itself can only take a limited amount of damage before it breaks. If the weapon breaks in this way, it takes a great toll on the caster, and puts him or her in danger of being knocked unconscious. The incantation for this spell is as follows: "Factus mucro, naturae viribus." (Forces of nature, become my blade.)

Likes, • Reading - Emil enjoys books that take her away from reality. While she would not qualify herself as "stressed" or "in need of a break", she does enjoy visiting a different place as a different person for a while. • Studying - Emil is very focused on her school work and learning what she needs to become a successful Spell Weaver. Studying makes her feel peaceful and gives her confidence in herself. She spends mostof her time in the library, taking notes and reviewing not only Spell Weaving subjects, but also other languages and subjects that she has trouble in. She enjoys learning new subjects and taking time to review them. • Coffee - Like any good nerd, Emil enjoys coffee immensely. She enjoys the relaxed atmospheres of coffee shops and how the warmth seems to emanate from just the general area instead of from a central location. Her peers often joke its like blood to a vampire for her. • Art - When reading and coffee can't perk her up (or when the library has finally closed and the coffee shop owner has chased her out) she finds refuge in the art museum and gallery, resting among the imagination of others and calmed by the eccentricity of artists. • Board Games - If there anyone who has a slight obsession with board games, they’re Emil’s best friend. Especially the strategy games like Monopoly or Risk that take a long time to play. She enjoys the games that take time because they keep her occupied and there are plenty of ways to make a comeback in a game. | Dislikes, • Disorganization - While she wouldn’t classify herself as OCD, Emil is very tidy and everything is well kept in her possession. She hates unnecessary clutter and throws a fit when she’s in a room of complete disarray. • News Anchors - Not just news reporters, but gossip columns, magazine journalists, and any other bad-news-baring media. She just hates the constant downpour of negative energy and it upsets her concentration when she thinks of some problem going on with someone she doesn’t know or care about. • Fire - Over time, Emil has channeled her terror of fire into a distaste. She only fears is when it gets out of hand and becomes uncontrollable. Otherwise, she dislikes the use of it and doesn’t generally associate with anyone who uses it in their spells. • Surprises - This includes gifts, secret lunch plans, pop quizzes, or anything else she didn’t sign up for or didn’t plan on having. If anyone insists on getting her a birthday presents, she tells them exactly what to get her and requests it isn’t wrapped. She usually has her day planned out beforehand and doesn’t participate in random events. And any teacher who doesn’t give her notice of a test or assignment beforehand automatically goes on her Distaste List. • Dust - Although having many books and shelves to house such books might collect a lot of dust, Emil does her very best to keep areas clean so as not to attract any. She is highly allergic and will go into a sneezing and coughing fit if she inhales it. Dust, ash, smoke, and other debris upset her lungs. |
Personality,
Emil is a very soft spoken person and she generally stays to herself. She doesn’t like getting close to people because she’s afraid they’ll be taken from her. While she doesn’t worry about friends or a mate, she does sometimes enjoy the company of a study group because she’s very educated in Social Interactions after being placed in the class in three sessions in a row once - they didn’t get her schedule changed for two weeks - so she pretty much understood that basic interaction was necessary for a sense of security. So, she only voluntarily interacts with others when having a discussion about schoolwork or topics parallel to a recent lesson.
While it may sound like Emil gives the cold shoulder, she doesn’t purposefully ignore or shy away from anyone. She goes about her routine and just doesn’t go out of her way to socialize. However, she has a very sarcastic manner and doesn’t always get along with other people’s humor and this makes most of her social conversations awkward. While acquaintances wouldn't call her bland, most don't qualify her as being exceedingly interesting or exciting. She's a general teenage book worm with modest ambitions.
Out of the few passions she has, they are obvious. The only time she seems to come alive is when she is explaining something pertaining to the interests she has. Whether it's studying for a new spell or a book she has fallen for, when she has an interest in it she puts 100% into the subject. She gets discouraged easily when someone gives her a strange look or puts down anything she has to say even the slightest when she has shown excitement in anything and immediately becomes reserved, sometimes for days until she finds something else to be interested in. She sometimes retreats into her own world when she finds something, focusing on the given subject and little else until the phase has passed over.
History,
Emil doesn’t let on what a shocking past threw her into a world of solitude, silence, and fear. Emil’s family was one of the first to accept the change in society; when monsters, magic, and mishap descended on the world, the Leveratos took it in stride. They had survived World Wars in Italy, oppression in America, and this wouldn’t be any different from climbing the tower of success. Emil was taught at a young age to accept anything that came her way and to try her best with the hardest study of magic: Spellweaving. Her parents tried their hardest to give her the most rigorous experience as a child but sometimes they tried too hard. Instead of becoming an outwardly open person, her parents’ continuous thrusting into social events forced her withdraw into herself. She became shy and focused more on her studies instead of trying to branch out to many social circles.
One day, one of their extravagant parties went ary. When one of their guests got out of hand and a fight broke out, somewhere in the midst of throwing fists, a strand of fire caught and began to blaze - no one knows if it was from a knocked over candle or from magic use(which was forbidden on the Leverato estate during a social event). With everyone in a panic, the fire grew along the many curtains in the dining hall and quickly devoured the room, chasing people out before anything could be done. Emil - being only 7 years old - panicked and ran upstairs to her room, locking the door as if this would keep the fire out. She dashed over to her large closet and shut herself in. Emil screamed when she heard that something was breaking down her door and didn’t realize someone had picked her up because she was trembling so bad. It wasn’t until she was taken into the cool night air that she realized a man was taking her down a ladder and safely away from the burning house. She was left in shock until she was taken to the firetruck the was making loud sounds just outside her house. She hadn’t even noticed it earlier. “Where’s…...everyone?” Emil looked up at the firefighter who had saved her. He looked down and then back at her. “Let me tell you something kid. Everything that happens, has reasons, reactions, and repercussions. There’s always a beginning, middle, and an end. ANd there is always more than one road.” The firefighter didn’t actually believe the little girl would remember that, but Emil held onto that information tighter than anything that had ever been taught to her. She knew there was always good and bad. Just like she knew what had happened to her parents and didn’t specifically ask for them, instead more concerned for the other guests present. She knew she was supposed to do as she was told, with only well thought out questions being presented so as not to disturb anyone. Even with her parents gone, she knew how she was supposed to act while holding onto the Leverato name.
Her mother died trying to find her. Her father died trying to save her mother. Out of the 93 party guests that were present, excluding the household family, 2 were dead, 19 sustained serious injuries, and 23 were treated at the scene for minor problems. Emil was given these facts the next week after demanding them from an officer. She knew when to get what she wanted. She had been sent to stay with Master Onii and his caretaker Miss Xiu Xun. Master Onii had known Emil’s family while HollowHill was being constructed, as they were key endorsers. He had been registered as Emil’s guardian, should anything happen to Emil’s parents. He was distant, as all masters should be, but he taught Emil many things in the way of the world and to be accepting of all creatures. Miss Xiu Xun was cold and Emil wasn't allowed to be a loud child while growing up. While she wasn’t exactly reserved, Emil didn’t find friends all that easy to make considering not only the name and history that followed her around but also the fact that she didn’t want to be responsible for anyone. When she voiced this at 14 years old to her master after he asked why she didn’t go out like a teenage girl should, he tilted his head. “Why do you think you are responsible?” She looked up at him with the large brown eyes that were her only girlish feature. “That’s what a companion does. Whether it’s family, friends, or acquaintances. You’re responsible somehow. And I don’t want to be responsible for anyone. Because it will just put me into trouble.”
Her master died when she was 17 years old. Miss Xiu Xun arranged an apartment for Emil to live in above a coffee shop where she would work. “17 is old enough to live on your own. With no further independent training here, you will take your education elsewhere.” Miss Xiu Xun addressed the girl as she carried her suitcase out of the front door of the little hut she had lived in for ten years. Turning to the old woman, Emil frankly said “I never liked you, crow.” and walked away, not even giving a satisfied glance at the shock on the woman’s face. Emil has grown strong in elemental magic in every aspect except fire because she refuses to use it, seeing it as a nuisance. She accepts it’s important as an element but will not wield it. She excels in defense magic but is poor in attacking. She generally attempts to dodge attacks with acrobatic nimbleness she learned while training with Master Onii and tries to weaken and tire her opponent. She isn’t a strong fighter and avoids conflict as well as she can.
Other,
Emil has extended family, one side that didn’t support the movement to help creatures, another side that did. She has no contact with either the Leverato family nor the Churrin family, her mother’s side. She had one close adopted cousin before the fire, Andre Leverato, but they have not spoken since she went to live with Master Onii. He tried to make contact with her when they turned 18 after finding out she lived above a coffee shop, but she has not acknowledged his attempts as of late.
She tends to speak in sayings or lyrics. Her favorites are the words the fireman told her on the day she was rescued, her Larry Y Wilson quote, and various quotes from her master.
RP Sample,
The car rumbled to a stop outside a quaint house just inside the limits of HollowHill. An officer went up to the door and knocked; he was met almost immediately by a small old man who was no more than 5 foot tall with stern face and a woman who looked like she had just eaten a lemon. “We’ve been expecting you.” The woman droned, clearly displeased at being called in the late hours of the night. “Yes ma’am. Sorry to call you so late. I can’t give you all the details at the time but-” The officer started to apologize for the intrusion but the woman cut him off, turning away to walk back inside the house. “Just bring her in and put her on the couch.” The officer’s mouth hung open a little - he hadn’t mentioned the sleeping girl curled up in the backseat of his police cab. He shrugged to himself and turned to find the old man had slipped past him and had the car door already open.
“Come out, Emil. I know you are not asleep.” He took a step back to allow the child to stand before him, just an inch or two shorter than him. Although she was already 7 years old, she had short cropped hair from where her mother had just cut it to remove bubble gum, and a small frame that made her look even more boyish. She blinked, clutching the blanket the officer had given her tightly around her shoulders. “Are you afraid?” The old man asked her. The girl shook her head and the old man nodded. “You are to stay here.” He told her, expecting an inclination as to why or for how long or to any of the events that had occurred that night. Instead, he found himself being followed by a very silent girl, dismissing a shocked officer. As the old man passed him, he said “I will arrange everything in the morning. Thank you. Good night.” The only time Emil flinched while walking through the house was when the tall woman appeared suddenly, looking down her long nose at her. “That is Miss Xiu Xun. Pay no attention to her at the moment. I will speak with you in the morning about these things.” The old man nudged her forward, into a separate bedroom. “She is to sleep on the couch. This room is not ready.” The old crow -that’s how Emil saw her- loomed over the little man. “She sleeps here.” There was a second of silence, Emil’s heart picking up pace for the long second, before the crow turned away. “This will be your room.” The old man sat on the small unmade bed and patted the spot next to him until Emil sat. “You are tired. Rest.” He stood to leave before Emil finally let out a soft question. “Who are you?”
He turned around and the moonlight coming from the window of the little room caught his short white hair and his pale blue eyes just enough to make him look like a young man instead of an ancient scroll. “I am your new master. Master Onii.” With this, he left. Emil realized he had just answered most of the questions she had. Not only who he was but that he was indeed a man of few words but enough explanation, she was to stay here now, and her parents were gone. She curled up on the bed with no pillow and clutched the black blanket around her shoulders tightly. For the first time in years and the last time until ten years later, she let herself cry.
